A Tasmanian Story

The Bakers estate was built by hand in the 1980s as a grand act of love. For decades it sat untouched, hidden within 1,137 acres of wild Tasmanian wilderness, quietly waiting to be discovered again.

Single-story wooden house with solar panels on the roof, large windows, benches, and a stone path leading to the entrance.

Luxury Rooted in Nature

Ten Fifty Bakers was built from Tasmanian timber, stone and materials drawn from the land itself. From the beginning, it was created with care, intention and a strong sense of place.

A Vision from the Start

It was never just a house. It was imagined as a sanctuary, somewhere quiet, beautiful and deeply connected to its surroundings.

The Spirit Still Remains

That original foundation still stands today. Every beam, surface and detail carries the character of those who built it.

Stillness Returned to the Land

For years, the property sat quietly untouched. In that time, the bush thickened, wildlife returned and the silence deepened.

Frozen in Time

When we found the house, it was not falling apart, but it had been left behind by time. Built with love in the 1980s, it needed more than a refresh. It needed a future.

A New Purpose

Opening the property as a retreat gave it that future. What began as a way to preserve the house soon became a much bigger vision, one that allowed us not just to restore it, but to elevate it.

Restored with Care

Inside, the house was renewed with fresh paint, restored plumbing and timber floors brought back to life. Outside, the land was reopened and revived with new driveways, paths, bark, topsoil and clear views across the estate.

Off Grid, With Comfort

Ten Fifty Bakers is fully off grid, with solar power, battery storage, backup generation and water drawn from a deep underground bore. It is self sustained, private and immersed in nature, while still offering the comfort expected of a luxury stay.

Those who went

What people say after three days

"I've walked in a lot of places. I enjoyed how it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere but in reality, 5 minutes from the road. It gave me a degree of comfort that if anything went wrong, we'd have a easy exit."
Greg Marshall
Writer, Hobart
“Joel and Aiden were extremely professional in how they handled themselves. I enjoyed how lunch was provided in a quiet spot with only birds for company.”
Josh Perry
MasterChef Au Finalist
"Outstanding moment was absolutely the 5-course dinner at the end of the day. Paired with the lodge and knowladge of the guides, it was a vey special experience."
Larissa Bartlett
Research Fellow, UTAS
"I love Tasmanian flora and fauna so it was great to have access to such a rich area that is less disturbed than more commercialised areas."
Sophie Ballagh
Antartic Guide
“If I had to say what the best thing was, it would be the sauna and baths. It was exactly what I needed to unwind.”
David Bartlett
Former Tasmanian Premier
"Standout moment was going out at night with night vision equipment, guided by Joel. I had never done this before and we were able to spot a Tassie Devil!"
Ewan Blyth
Antartic Expedition Leader
