Itinerary
Over three unhurried days, the experience gradually unfolds — walking through quiet bushland and coastal country, then returning each evening to the calm of the lodge.
Arrive in Devonport
Arrive the day before and give yourself time to settle in. Devonport is worth an explore — the waterfront, the local restaurants, and the quiet rhythm of a Tasmanian port town make for a good first night. We offer airport transfers and accommodation at our guesthouse, so everything is taken care of from the moment you land.

Welcome to Bakers Beach and your first evening on the estate.
Your journey begins at 9:30 AM in Devonport, where you'll be collected and driven to the estate at Bakers Beach. Once settled, the afternoon is yours — a Tasmanian lunch, the private walking tracks, the sauna, the outdoor baths. Dinner is served as the light fades, followed by a nighttime wildlife walk through the property with night-vision gear.

Explore Tasmania’s wildlife-rich north coast.
After a cooked breakfast, the day opens up. Narawntapu National Park is on your doorstep — hike to Archer's Knob for sweeping coastal views, or simply walk the park's edges and watch the wildlife go about its morning. Back at the lodge in the afternoon, dinner and the campfire close out the day.

A quiet morning on the estate before returning to Devonport.
A gentle final morning — breakfast, one last wander through the trails, and a quiet farewell to the property. Departure is at 11:30 AM, arriving back in Devonport by noon. For those not quite ready to leave, an extended stay at Annie May Bed & Breakfast is available.

Most of Tasmania’s land was cleared for farming long ago. The 1,137-acre estate Bakers Walking Co. calls home was not. Too coastal, too varied and too wild to be considered useful farmland, it was left largely untouched — and that is what makes it so rare today.
Over three days, guests explore this landscape on a fully guided walking experience based from our off-grid lodge beside Narawntapu National Park on Tasmania’s north-west coast. The estate is threaded with 22 km of private trails maintained exclusively for our guests, moving through coastal country, open woodland, hidden lagoons and bushland that has never been a paddock.
For much of the experience, you are unlikely to encounter anyone else. From arrival to departure, everything is taken care of — accommodation, meals, guiding, transfers from Devonport, and the overall flow of the stay.
Days are designed to feel immersive yet comfortable: real walking, a relaxed pace, time to learn from your guides, and evenings back at the lodge with good food, the sauna, outdoor baths and, on one night, an optional wildlife walk with night-vision equipment.
While each stay follows the general rhythm of the itinerary, it can also be adjusted to suit the needs and interests of the group.
This is not a manufactured retreat. It is a genuine piece of Tasmanian wilderness, carefully shared, with a very comfortable place to return to at the end of each day.

We recommend arriving in Devonport the evening prior to your start date as we depart the following morning at 9am after having breakfast. The Annie May Guesthouse is available for pre-tour accommodation — ask us at the time of booking and we can arrange this for you.
Airport transfers are available from both Devonport Airport and Launceston Airport to Annie May Guesthouse at the start of your trip, and back to either airport at the conclusion. Transfer costs vary depending on airport and group size — contact us when booking to arrange.
If you're arriving via the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, the Devonport terminal is a short distance from Annie May Guesthouse and easily managed by taxi or rideshare.
Fitness level: Moderate. Walks cover varied terrain including coastal tracks, beaches, and woodland. No technical experience is required. Daily distances are manageable for most reasonably active adults.
Group size: Small private groups only of between 4 and 10 people. Maximum group size is kept intentionally low to preserve the experience and the environment.
Season: Runs year-round. Tasmania's weather is changeable in all seasons — layering is recommended regardless of time of year. Full gear guidance is provided in your pre-trip information pack.
Getting here: The retreat departs from Devonport, Tasmania. Guests travelling from interstate typically fly into Launceston or Devonport. If arriving by Spirit of Tasmania ferry, Devonport is your arrival point. The meeting and pickup is the Annie May Guesthouse on Formby road.
Accessibility: The estate's tracks are natural bush terrain and are not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations. Contact us directly if you have specific requirements and we'll advise honestly on whether the experience is a good fit.
Bookings and cancellations: A deposit is required to secure your place. Full terms are outlined at the time of booking.
